Doldrums

He called me fireworks
Because he said
That’s all he saw
When we kissed.

Missing is a reflex reaction
Not borne of emotions
Because true love requires time
And actual dedication

Dead to the world
For the art of leaving before loving
Was perfected a-la
Existentialist boinking.

Meet me in the middle
I wanted to yell
For the fight was all I had left
But there was none in him

And so the balloons we blew
Deflated
As time often does.
Love moves on.

Naïve, naïve, I giggled
Into the reflection that was all
I had left of
A former paramour

He called me fireworks
Because
That was all he saw when we kissed but
Hurricanes become breezes

And I can’t for the life of me
Remember
The way he tastes.
