Real Me

You want to call me sexy
and I don’t think thats right
See, I’m just a girl wearing a skirt
In the right light

You say you want to date me
but I don’t think thats fair
You only look at me when I
spend an hour on my hair

And its not fair to you
You think you’re getting a movie star
But you have no idea
the way things really are
Its so not fair you see
Look at me when you don’t want to
When I’m not trying so hard to have you
You’ll see the real me

Sometimes I see you laughin’
at the way I dress
You look the other way as
I keep on flirtin’ lookin’ like a mess

I think I’m just fine
but you don’t give a damn
You pulled my leg then
did a serenade and then I
lost my mind

And its not fair to you
You think you’re getting a movie star
But you have no idea
the way things really are
Its so not fair you see
Look at me when you don’t want to
When I’m not trying so hard to have you
You’ll see the real me

Artist's Description

A few years back my younger sister was going through that phase of, “Oh my god I HAVE to do my hair for so-and-so so that he’ll ask me out!”. I shook my head at it, and got really fed up with her behavior so I wrote these lyrics and even put a country type of tune to it. Update: She’s out of the hair phase and has moved on to shoes, and am quite happy that we wear the same size shoe.
