sacred art

How can they dance?
On the lands of childhood
Building a new wall
Between nothing and again

Who do they think they are?
Singing to a tune they don’t know
Made up of lethargic but tempting words
That break down into sounds never listened to

What are they looking for?
Someone looking for them
We all come together in the end
But then it’s never there

Where are they heading?
Off into a rising sunset
Mixed in with the sweet salt
Of a smirk never tamed

When is the deadline?
It’s found on a twisted clock
That tells the time it never is
But always knows north

Why?
Is that all they have to say?
They’ll say it again and again
Until the answer isn’t there

Damned are they?
Who’s to say hell
Isn’t
The question itself?

Fan the flame?
They might
Beat a dead horse
With a soul too coarse

There’s no real answer
Because the question
Was never sincere
All they want is purpose
