On an extraordinarily windy and grey Sunday, I decided to take my both Nikons (D80 and F50) for a stroll in Seaford. It’s 4 years since the F50 got an outing and the idea was to see if I can still take photographs without the stabilisers of a digital camera (view finder, auto focus etc…) – I’m a week or so away from finding out the answer.

The boats on the seafront are always a little on the dull side to be honest and I’ve never managed a good capture there. But I decided to have a mooch around just in case, I was just walking away when a flash of gorgeous burnt orange and blue caught my eye, and there on the underside of one of the boats, was this.

The photograph has been rotated through 90 degrees to create the landscape, however this is the only edit!

The soft focus is intentional. The majority of colours softly merged in to each other and pulling the focus took the harsh edge off of the main line of rust. Plus with the high winds.poor visibility and sea spray, I didn’t stand a chance of getting anything in focus anyway, so I thought I’d work with it, as opposed to fight against it!

Taken in Seaford, East Sussex
