Artist's Description

A full bloom with golden-tipped stamens on a red powder puff bush. This flower originates from Bolivia but is cultivated in many parts of the world. The plant is part of the pea family (Fabaceae), subfamily Mimosa. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/5.6, 1/80 sec., ISO 400, overcast, handheld)

This photo was chosen as the cover image for the winter 2011 newsletter of the South Coast Botanic Garden (Palos Verdes, California).
