This Japanese iris was new to me, seen this morning growing at the edge of the koi pond at my local botanical garden. It looks a little like the smaller butterfly irises (Dietes grandiflora), but it is much larger and does not have the dark spots near the center. Note also that this variety of iris has no beard. I love the structure of the flower! (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/160 sec., ISO 200, overcast, handheld)
