Artist's Description

The barque, James Craig, was originally built in England in 1874. After serving as a crgo ship carrying trade around the world, she was abandoned and beached in 1932 in Recherche Bay, in the far south of Tasmania.

In 1972 volunteers from the Sydney Heritage Fleet refloated her and she was towed to Hobart and underwent temporary repairs before being towed to Sydney in 1981 for full restoration work. She was relaunched in 1997.

She is pictured here, with the Lady Nelson to the rear, on the Derwent River off Hobart, where she is taking part in the 2013 Hobart Wooden Boat Festival.
