Artist's Description

The light beacon known as the Iron Pot, taken from Hope Beach at South Arm, in Tasmania, Australia.

Hope Beach is named after the colonial trading ship Hope which was wrecked on the beach in 1827 (no lives lost). It was rumoured to be carrying the quarterly pay for the Hobart garrison. The chest containing the money was said to have been hidden nearby by two guards from the ship. Various searches have been made over the years but the money has not been found.
