2007: A Year in Review

What a year 2007 turned out to be. I think overall, it was not one of my best years. My dad was diagnosed with stage four gall bladder cancer and I was laid off from two IT jobs in less than five months. One job I had been in for over two years and hated, and the other a contract job that I REALLY loved and was supposed to last six months and go permanent, only lasted two.

My dad continues to receive chemo treatments, but no real progress has been made so far. The cancer has developed on his liver and continues to be seen in the CAT scans. The lymph nodes have not enlarged any further, but have not decreased either. We continue to hope and pray that something will slow or stabilize this cancer. I want to personally thank you all that have commented, added my dad to your prayer list, or purchased a greeting card to support my BUY A CARD = CANCER DONATION campaign.

I found my passion for photography in January 2007 and purchased my Nikon D80 after looking at various vacation photos taken with my Kodak DX6490 and realized I might have an eye for this. I really wish I had discovered this 20 years ago. I might have been much happier in my career life.

I joined RedBubble in June 2007 so I am kind of an old timer here. I could not give you an accurate view count because I have deleted many photos when they did not do well in the public eye. I have enjoyed the community, all the wonderful work that is presented, and the people I have met.

Since joining RedBubble I have sold 35 items. 1 Mounted Print, 15 Calendars, and 19 Greeting Cards. I received my first payment from RedBubble yesterday. I will be sending the first donation from the Greeting Card proceeds to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center by the end of the month. The proceeds total around $20, which I will likely double, and I also plan to donate a signed copy of one of my floral prints framed. One of the ways they help people find their way around is by giving the areas flower names. If they display it, and it brightens just one person’s day for just one moment, it would be priceless.

I created my professional photography Web site in late November 2007, Charles Dobbs Photography , where I plan to offer my services and also gallery sales on everything you see here on RedBubble. Better yet, you get a discount when you purchase anything from me directly from my site. Feel free to take a look, sign up, leave comments, ratings, or even make a purchase!

I look forward to see what 2008 has to offer. I know it will be a tough year, but every negative has a positive. I wish you all a safe and happy New Year.

Charles
