“Using a Sledgehammer as a paintbrush seems like a simple idea; most good ideas are simple.” / - Chris Crewe | 2019

I see beauty in unique perspectives; understanding a new idea when I see one, recognizing when an artist approaches subject matter from a completely different way of conceptualizing; making unique marks on the canvas. Using colour and interpretation through tools, artists’ show how they see light hit the world and splash images into their conscious mind, each artist uses a tool to spread pigment strengthening an obscure connection through their optic nerve and the motor skills of their hand forming gestures that spread colour according to that specific interpretation and neural pathway.

From my experience at OCADU I learned a wide variety of fabrication techniques in various mediums, my time at SKETCH taught me to work among a community and interact with local and transient artists which helped me personally learn and develop, my work at the design exchange museum fed my love for sharing the evolution of art and design with other people willing to open up a discussion about interesting topics which enhance the appreciation of aesthetics and meaning in culture.

I raise the Sledgehammer over my head and strike down on the canvas…. BANG!

Colors race and reach outward from the center, violent splashes of paint spread and twist across each composition bouncing and crashing outward creating a miracle captured in time.

The hammer forces the paint to race outward and perform unpredictable maneuvers; twisting in mid-air, staining the surface of the canvas and skipping like pebbles across a pond. The intensity pierces through the work and causes a dent in the wooden floor below, I apply a paint-soaked patch to the back of the canvas which oozes pigment; highlighting the aftermath in much greater dimension.
