Shut the Door or Let You In?

Shut the door or let you in?
I’ve lived inside a safe but lonely haven
For over three years now
Why do I feel the need to break out?

Perhaps it’s because with time
The door to my heart has began to crack
Opening very slowly;
I see you at the other side.

You’re standing there looking
At me as just a friend
Yet I’m wanting so much more
I yearn for our relationship to grow
Should I shut the door?

Keep my haven safe?
Or let you inside, see the mess you make?
I know you’re not interested
In coming inside
I wish that you were
I would let you in.

Thought suggests I shut the door
Heart instigates I leave it cracked
I battle with caring too much
But also knowing that caring will make
me come alive. I want to feel
Your hand against my cheek, your lips pressed
against mine, our hearts intertwined…

Shut the door
or let you in?
You tell me.
