Artist's Description

I’ve been wanting to shoot a lighthouse for some time. However all searches showed the new, dull looking types, soaringly high, though amazingly dry. One day i stumbled on a photography taken of the old Woollongong inner harbour lighthouse. It was restored to its former whitewashed glory a few years ago and the granite outcrop it was grounded on had beautiful ochre weed and seaweed growths that seemed to contrast perfectly with yellow sand and deep blue Woollongong skies. I made the trek one weekend down from Sydney on a cloudy day (I find they add much more interest to the sky backgrounds). I got to the Harbour around 3, scouted the area for a few hours then grabbed a beautiful coffee and waited for the sun to set. Sure enough, the lightshow came on and i must have taken over 200 photos. It made for a perfect afternoon.

The photo was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II. Post-production editing was completed with Aperture 2.
