Artist's Description

In my opinion, Ophelia got screwed. Sure, Shakespeare wanted to write a tragedy. And it’s a good one. But it just doesn’t seem fair that the girl is soooo weak and fragile… to the extent that she goes nutbar and drowns herself?!?

Maybe if she’d had some strong female guidance – or perhaps some sort of faith to turn to? – things might have been different. (I wrote a short story for her based on this idea — she does kinda go nutty, but doesn’t actually DROWN.) So here she is, looking heavenward through a veil of shadows and vintage-inspired lace.

To try out the optical illusion, click for the full image, then move across the room while keeping your eyes on Ophelia. Her features and expression should become more apparent as you get farther away, while details like the lace and ripples of light can only be seen up close.
