White Ribbons

White ribbons running
she’s letting her hair down
I watch as she crosses roads
to live on the other side
Girl to woman overnight
she’ll learn pain firsthand
A butterfly, she’s flying
with her wings clipped
Out of the cage but not the world
Her white ribbons come undone
As I watch her cross roads
to live on the other side
Of her cell
