Artist's Description

The first recorded sighting of our southwest coast by the dutch ship “The Leeuwin” (Lioness) in March 1622 and since 1627 Cape Leeuwin has appeared on maps. The Leeuwin was one of 14 ships to set sail from Holland on a voyage to Batavia. Just what happened to “The leeuwin” is not known as the ships journal has been lost and there are no details of the crew. This spectacular lighthouse was built in 1895 at the southern tip of Western Australia where the southern and Indian Oceans meet. This lighthouse is quite tall and this shot shows a greater perspective of it’s size in comparison with the land around it. Cheers C. :+)
