The Kapitan Klebnikov, ice breaker, steams due south at 1.30am. Travelling through a Polinya (open water) amongst the pack ice. The sea ice is textured with evidence of frozen waves and pressure ridges. The water is calm as the ice dampens the effects of tides, waves and currents. The 24 hour sunshine through the summer brings glistening light to the environment as the sun dips to its lowest point in the sky: the point of sunset and sunrise all at once. Ross Sea, Antarctica.
