Artist's Description

African Elephant, Loxodonta Africana, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, East Africa. Part of a large herd of elephants crossing the plains and heading for water. A matriarch leads the herd which is made up of females, babies, juveniles and adolescents. Young males leave the herd, usually in pairs, when reaching adolescence. Elephants are endangered due to poaching for ivory and habitat destruction. Being the the largest land mammal they need an extensive range with plenty of food and daily access to water.
