Artist's Description

The Cheetah – Acinonyx jubatus
The fastest land animal in the world, the cheetah is a marvel of evolution. The cheetah’s slender, long-legged body is built for speed. When cheetahs are running, they use their tails to help them steer and turn in the direction they want to go, like the rudder of a boat.
In 1900, there were over 100,000 cheetahs across their historic range. Today, an estimated 9,000 to 12,000 cheetahs remain in the wild in Africa. In Iran, there are around 200 cheetahs living in small isolated populations.
Cheetah can see detail from approximately 5 km away, can reach speeds of 110km per hour and can accelerate 0 to 84km per hour in under 3 seconds meaning that they out perform most sports cars. – Wildlife Heritage Foundation – http://www.whf.org.uk
