Artist's Description

Male house finch on a blackberry stem. Notice him lifting his toe on the left to avoid a thorn.

This attractive finch was only found in Mexico and the US south west until the 1930’s when it was introduced to the eastern US, where it’s now firmly established. It has also steadily expanded its range northwards along the west coast. South western British Columbia (here) is currently the northern extreme of its range.

Taken near Gibsons, Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada.

Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T3i
Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L @ 400mm
