Artist's Description

Water Monitor Lizard
(Varanus niloticus)
The Water Monitor grows to
be the largest African lizard.
Its tail is longer than its body.

Water Monitors feed along rivers
and streams, feeding on frogs,
small fish and crabs.

The female lays about 40 eggs in
a termite mound.
The eggs hatch in about six months.
