Cara Schingeck

Tacoma, United States

Working in photography, digital, scanography, painting (encaustic, watercolor, pastel, graphite, mixed-media), and public art...

Inspiration is all around me within my own urban garden oasis located in Tacoma, Washington. I now photograph nature using my smartphone. I find the immediacy and convenience of this technology allows me to seize the moment as nature and light unfolds.

I also photograph floral arrangements that I create using flowers from my garden and neighborhood. I feel these images demonstrate my passion for sculpture and painting as well as photography.

My current goal is to show through my imagery the beauty of nature that surrounds us all. We just need to walk out our back door, look, be patient and suddenly we will see all the wonders that are so near.
My Scanographic digital photography (a form of 3D digital image capture) of flowers and seashells artwork has been reviewed by Tacoma Weekly as being “extremely sharp and detailed…a woman’s vision is apparent in every piece”.

*Published in Pink Panther online Magazine, International Women’s Day, March 2019, “Faces 4”, pastel painting

*Published in B& W Magazine, 2009, Cara J. Jennings (aka Cara Schingeck) “Seashell 22”; Single Image, Still Life / Objects,Cara J. Jennings

I have work in private, corporate and public collections including:
- Artwork in permanent Pierce County Arts & Cultural Services in both mixed-media and Scanography (a form of 3D digital image capture)
- Art installation and encaustic/constructs for Barefoot Studios in 2008
- My work has been shown many galleries including the Auburn City Hall, Centennial Center Gallery in Kent, WA and the Helen S. Smith Gallery.
- Exhibition at Art Slam in 2009 in the Rialto Theatre in Tacoma, Washington.

During 2009 I worked with the students from McCarver Elementary to produce a public art installation of Cultural Identity Tiles that are now part of a bench facing the playground for the Zina Linnik Park project as part of a memorial within McCarver Park located in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington.

I enjoy writing short stories especially for children. The themes of which are mainly centered on our ability to use our imagination to create beautiful worlds inside our minds using our surroundings as inspiration; to have wonder, to have awe about life, as well as, wonder in mind about ideas and possibilities.
I also write poetry.

I feel more alive when I get outside

Amazing isn’t when we change our perspective / Just went outside tonight / In the rain / In the dark / Stepped outside / Took another look / And how fresh it felt / To step outside for another look / To breathe the fresh air / Felt so good
