Women's March Seattle January 20, 2019

Women’s March Seattle Sunday, 20 January 2019
TIME: 10:00 till 13:00
I am so looking forward to participating in this march in 2019. I have two strong, inspiring granddaughters, a wonderful daughter-in-law and my son who together as a family they collectively make me so proud because they participate in the march year after year but this year in 2018 my son asked me to make him a “Pussy Hat” because I asked,” What kind of hat would you like me to make for you this Christmas?” and he said what he really wanted was this hat.

He reached into a drawer where his family kept their pussy hats from marches before. He showed me what they looked like even though I had an idea I thought the hats themselves were just a joke.

But, because my son asked for me to make him this hat and because of his enthusiasm for it I began to wonder what it represented, what this march was all about. Why was this hat so important to him that he wanted to be a part of it all with his family?

So, I did some research and found out what it was really about. Now I really know what it really means to march in January 2019.
It means, “Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.”

That is all I need to know to believe in a march I once thought was nothing but a joke. Now I know because of my son asking me to knit him a hat that women and men have power to change the minds and the world through simply asking for a hat.

And a march is not a waste of time a march continues and a march grows and a march will build momentum and throughout time word spreads to even people like me who have no idea about what it really means.

Now I will march in 2019.
