My portrait today, March 28th is a revision of my Our War: Day 14-20100814 Rev. 1 painting of Rick Lawson which was inspired by him and The War Experience Project.

His message is so important that I want to express it again to you and focus once more on his important project and share with you once more my portrait. I was going to paint another portrait of him and yet I looked at what I had created then and I reflected again of my knowledge of Rick and his organization and I realized that all I could do was to focus on his face because that is what I kept looking at, his eyes, he has a strength and soulful quality that is impossible to truly depict, you must meet him.

Rick Lawson is a veteran of Our War and he is also the founder of The War Experience Project

My portrait of Rick is very symbolic of the work he is doing to help U.S. Soldiers, war veterans and their families utilizing art to facilitate the healing process and for another form of expression.

I used paint, an impression of a hand, or is it a brush? I am not even sure, on his face, to show what I imagine what a mind feels, what emotions are on his face and how many soldiers and veterans keep it inside-feelings, thoughts are deep inside many and some can never show or express themselves verbally.

The work he is doing is comes through the hands and the paint.

Expression and feelings that can be so chaotic inside are somehow made sense of to the person feeling them because of the resources that Rick’s organization has made available at The War Experience Project
and for these reasons you see that I made chaos through surrounding Rick, yet his green eyes are vibrant, focused yet they still look out to something off in the distance, he has his own visions, his own experiences of war that no one but he can express..my portrait of him is my interpretation not his and I show to you what I feel, not what he feels so I show to you my feelings and I express myself with my confusion of the war, how it surrounds me and him and my empathy for him, how it surrounds THE mind of us all

To find out more information about The War Experience Project

This portrait I made for him to honor him-my recognition and my way to say thank you for his service in our war and for his continual dedication to help others.

Even though I have no idea what he is truly thinking/feeling-I am willing to try in order to convey to you through my art what I see/feel inside myself in his eyes. I am trying, I am trying to make a connection, trying to find a way to communicate and to honor our veterans.
