Artist's Description

camera data: canon eos digital rebel xto 400; flash auto; meter mode pattern

I was inspired to take this color self portrait while I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that all around…in the front of me, in the back of me depicted my life at that time…four years ago.

I wanted to document my world as an artist living in a small studio apartment struggling to survive and to determine what I was as a person and what I should do with my creative energy.

I finally did determine who I was and what I should do with my creative energy and that was that I should do whatever I wanted to in order to express myself freely.

My brother and my family always supported me through this time and always gave me encouragement.

This image is on the surface a self portrait, it is also a symbolic representation of a conceptualization of a person who may feel isolated but who really is not if only they reach out to those they have known, those they may fear may reject them, those they may not even have met but are tentative about approaching for a variety of reasons…
Will others know who I am, what I have seen?
Will this person see through me?
Do you know what I have seen…I know you haven’t, so you will never understand me?

What I have come to know for myself is that my questions above are my own and I have answered them all in my own way to find a truth for myself that has made my life worth living and a life that is filled with new experiences that lessens the fear and helps to make the nightmares go away-replaced instead by dreams and days when I am able to breathe and enjoy the sunlight, meeting people who may or may not judge me but I know who I am and I know that life is short so I live each moment fully and enjoy each moment and each person for who they are without judgment.

That was my life and that was my world…

See my world as it is now…

It does make me wonder
how war impacts life
how war impacts health
how war causes stress
how war exceeds our expectations

It does make me wonder…

how war keeps occurring
how war keeps destructing
how war keeps killing

on people

It does make me wonder…

Our War: Day 95-20101103
