CHAKRAS, COLORS & STONES

With numerous stones available, it is often difficult to determine which one is right for you. In my experience, if you are attracted to a certain stone or color, it is for a very good reason. The following information may help you understand what’s going on underneath the surface in the wonderful energy centers called Chakras.

Red is the color associated with the first chakra known as the Root or Base Chakra. This chakra, or energy center, is located at the base of your spine. It is the chakra that allows us to express anger, make money, be grounded. If the root chakra is blocked due to holding in rage from childhood, life may be more difficult. Money problems could ensue, relationships can suffer, and healthy attitudes may be shadowed by negativity. When the root chakra is clear, one tends to be happy, optimistic, feeling alive and vital.

There was a time in my life when I had difficulty expressing my own anger, and attracted very angry men. I was always sooooooooooo nice, and had a hard time figuring out why I was around such mean people. With the root chakra so blocked, I didn’t even know I was harboring my own anger. I thought it was everyone else’s dilemma! I started to sleep with a piece of red velvet. By adding red into my bedroom (which was void of red at the time), I began to unlock pent up anger, and learn to express it in a healthy way. Realizing that it is okay (and even human) to feel angry, I was on my way to a more balanced lifestyle. The angry men disappeared, and last I looked, my bedroom had a lot more red accessories. Plus, I noticed I was wearing more red jewelry. Stones like garnet, ruby, bloodstone, and red jasper can help balance your Root Chakra.

Orange is the color associated with the second chakra known as the Sacral Chakra. This chakra is located about 2 inches below the belly button. It is the chakra that rules sexuality and creativity. When this chakra is balanced, we feel alive and happy, easy to laugh, and feel compassion for those around us. Intuition and creativity are heightened, and we can share physically our expressions of love.

When the Sacral Chakra is out of whack, we feel blocked, sluggish, unambitious, and may have health issues surrounding the kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and sexual organs. Fertility may be a challenge as well.

An example of a blocked Sacral Chakra is someone who feels very sexual and alive, but is partnered with someone who is not. Or someone who is extremely creative, but is not allowed to express their artistic nature. Circumstances such as these may result in diseases in the lower abdomen such as fibroids, bladder cancer, and kidney stones. Wear orange!! Plant orange flowers! Laugh! Dance! Bring joy into you life! Visit art museums, take up crocheting, go to a comedy club, and wear stones such as carnelian, amber, citrine, and coral.

Yellow is the color associated with the third chakra, or Life Force Chakra, located in the area of the Solar Plexus just under the breast bone at the base of the rib cage. It carries our true energetic essence, allows us to exert our personal stamp on our existance, and gives us the oomph we need to achieve our goals. Face it, if we are feeling good and healthy, our ambitions become attainable. If we are feeling low ebb, then everything seems much harder.

If the energies from the first two chakras are not aligned, our life force can become affected. We will judge ourselves more harshly, feel compelled to judge others more quickly, and become susceptible to illness.

Often during healing sessions, I am drawn to “feel” a person’s life force at their third chakra. I can feel if someone is so energetic that no matter what, they will continue to work towards their goals. And I can also sense if getting up in the morning has become a chore.

The most important thing to do is Reclaim your Power! Easier said than done, right? I found a wonderful resource called Busting Loose from the Money Game by Robert Scheinfeld. This book outlines a process that helps us to reclaim our power and rid ourselves from unwanted energetic discomforts. In the meantime, surround yourself with yellow! Feel the warmth of the sun, and embrace gold, amber, citrine, and tiger’s eye.

Green is the color associated with the Heart Chakra. Love, love, love! When we feel love, our chest expands. We walk taller, we hug, we surround ourselves with plants. Opening the heart chakra brings us unlimited happiness, joy, peace, serenity, prosperity, and compassion.

Have you noticed how sensitive the heart area can be? When our heart chakra is not nourished, we can suffer from asthma or breathing ailments. The lungs, circulation, and immune system are all supported by the Heart Chakra. Quite simply, if we don’t feel loved, we debilitate. The lower three chakras are all about being grounded and earthbound. The upper three chakras connect us spiritually. The Heart Chakra is the interchange between them. Connecting our abilities to live on earth and in the spiritual realm simultaneously. We feel with our hearts. We know with our hearts. We love with our hearts. The heart nourishes our entire being.

Green is not just for St. Patrick’s Day! Green is perfect all year long. Bring luck into your life by wearing green, breathing green (plants and trees and nature), and loving green (money falls into this category, too!). Draw yourself towards emeralds, malachite, green aventurine, and jade. Rose Quartz, too, will open your heart.

Blue is the color associated with the fifth Chakra or the Throat Chakra. It seems fitting that this is the communication center. The throat, mouth, teeth, and thyroid are all influenced by this chakra. Ruled by the planet mercury, the throat chakra also takes center stage for speaking, writing, creative expression through the arts, wisdom, and loyalty.

All of us know that when we hold back what we really want to say, we may be plagued by sore throats, or head colds. Walking around with a “lump in our throat,” is a very real manifestation of not utilizing the throat chakra to its greatest capacity. Speaking from your heart, speaking the truth, speaking honestly and with integrity, will keep your throat chakra nourished and thriving.

Isn’t it interesting that blue jeans have become a staple fashion statement since the 60’s? The sixties is known for the doorway into the future for self expression and creative expression. Art, music, writing, speaking, all changed dramatically during that era. The influence is strongly felt today, and everybody continues to wear blue jeans!

Wear blue. Wear lapis lazuli, sodalite, chrysocolla, turquoise, amazonite, azurite, aquamarine. Breathe in the sky. The ocean. Speak your truth.

Indigo is the color associated with the Sixth Chakra located in the center of the forehead in your Mind’s Eye. It is a beautiful mix of blue and purple often seen in California Sunsets.

For me, this is the most fun chakra. It influences clairvoyance, psychic ability, connections with The Other Side, meditation, intuition, imagination. It helps us to focus and feel on an intuitive level. It connects the head to the heart. Ruling the eyes, vision, sinuses, and brain, the Third Eye Chakra encompasses what is known as the Sixth Sense. Basically, it is where you can really see dead people.

When the Third Eye is out of balance, you may suffer from headaches, congestion, depression, and fatigue. Lack of focus and clarity often prevails. Clear your head! Trust your judgements. Go with your first impression. By continually noting when something happens that you just “knew” was going to happen, it will continue to happen again and again. Exercise your Mind’s Eye, just as you would your abs. It’s a muscle that is begging for a workout.

To aid and sharpen your sixth chakra, wear Lapis Lazuli, Clear Quartz Crystal, Sapphire, tourmaline, iolite, and azurite.

Purple. The majesty of the rainbow. Purple is the color associated with the Seventh Chakra or the Crown Chakra. It is the closest connection to Spirit, to the Divine, to God. The Crown Chakra opens us up to the magic of the universe, void of ego, where we can trust our highest guidance to be on the perfect path that is ours.

It is where deep spirituality lies, where trust in the universe is abundant, where judgements have no place. It is the ultimate scope of compassion and intuition, where we know we are all connected and that everything has a Divine purpose.

The Crown Chakra, when closed shut, allows us to run amok. Without guidance. Without trust. Believing that we must do everything ourselves without spiritual help. When we open ourselves up to the universe and trust that we are always protected and guided, we experience a greater form of satisfaction. All joy. All goodness. All love. All wonderment.

Believe. Believe that you are completely taken care of. Believe and breathe. Wear purple. Wear amethyst. Meditate with quartz crystals. Invite all spiritual helpers into your home. Ask them for help. They are just waiting to hear from you. Give your troubles over to your seventh chakra and release them. Continue to trust every single day that you are watched over and loved. You are.

Stones that might support this journey are amethyst, flourite, quartz crystals, and diamonds.
