The Spark

There once was a Wilmington girl
whose hair was the color of pearl.
She met a red-headed boy
who gave her such joy,
she decided to give him a whirl.

She gave him a genuine smile.
She said “let’s have lunch for a while.”
They went out to eat.
They both went “Dutch treat,”
and he fell in love with her style.

He asked her to dine every day.
She went with him as if to say
she liked his style too.
That started love true,
and their hearts were both blown away.

One day, as the story unfolds,
he took the first step and was bold.
He wanted to be
her lover, you see,
So he asked her, and this he was told.

She said that she thought he was nice
and she’d love to, despite all advice.
But the problem was then
a question of when
and any old place would suffice.

His night lit up like the day.
Lights flashed and danced every which way.
Bells pealed and tolled
‘cause gone was the cold
that he’d felt on his heart till today.

Since then they’ve been happy, you see.
Love blossomed for each happily.
They love and they kiss
and each other they miss
when they can’t together be.
