Eucalypse 2011

So, who’s interested in helping me put together the next one?

I’m looking at a city that isn’t Melbourne. Sydney would be pushing it. I’m liking Brisvegas or Perth.

Timing will depend on the location but it’d be likely to be between June and October 2011.

Any takers?

4 day photo shoot in Melbourne

I’ve spent much of this year negotiating with venues around central Melbourne, to get their involvement in Eucalypse – an Australian version of an istockphoto mini-lypse. Photographers in the group will be from a variety of online communities such as redbubble, deviantart and here (as well as istockphoto).…

You can read full details and register here.

The gist of it is this though:
- 4 days of shooting at a number of exclusive venues including Rosati Restaurant/Arthur’s Bar, St Michael’s Church, Mission to Seafarers, The Burlesque Bar, and Rendezvous Hotel.
- an even mix of experienced and inexperienced photographers, with small shooting groups of 3, assigned to different shooting setups to ensure maximum variety.
- last weekend of November.

Quite a few of the mentee slots, and several of the

Spend four days emersed in photography

I’ve mentioned this once or twice before, but I’ve been working on a largish photoshoot for a while now. I launched the website last night.

We’ll be running a series of practical workshops, backed up by shooting sessions. The goal is to give people access to venues, and styles of shooting they wouldn’t normally get a chance to shoot when soloing as a photographer.

Let me know if you want to book a spot for yourself, or if you’ve got questions – ask away.

November photo shoot

I’m getting ever closer to the goal of doing a Eucalypse in Melbourne this year (that’s a minilypse). It will be either 3 or 4 days in duration, and I’m lining up some pretty good venues to shoot in ie: ones a sole photographer couldn’t afford or wouldn’t get access to.

I’m a bit stuck though, in that I don’t know what the priorities are for people (time, cost, focus etc). So I’d appreciate it if you could give me a bit of help by answering a few questions for me.

If you’re keen, you can also pre-register for the shoot (no obligation….yet, though it does give you first bight when tickets go on sale).

Location scouting?

I’m looking to do a shoot in a dry area. Kinda like here or here

Obviously, this is the wrong time of year to be doing such a shoot, but if anyone knows of locations within an hour or so drive of Melbourne, that look like this in the drier periods, I’d be keen to find out about them.

Stylist needed

I’m doing a shoot at The Butterfly Club in a couple of weeks. Anyone know a stylist who can provide cabaret/vaudeville style costumes?

Model is a young male performer. Most props are already there, it’s the costume I’m most in need of.

BM or comment to get in touch :)

Melbourne Group Shoot

A new year, a new project.

So far it’s pretty much a blank slate, but here are some things I’d be keen to do as a follow on from this (lightbox here):

  1. pairing experienced photographers with newbies in a mentorship (similar to what’s being done at RR5).
  2. detailed workshops in a proper presentation environment.
  3. more locations and smaller shooting groups to disperse photographers over more unique shooting environments.
  4. themed shooting sessions, with models, location and wardrobe/styling to match.
  5. 2+ days?

We’d be looking at a Winter or Spring event (autumn is too close to pull it together for that). Attendance will be open to people from anywhere, not just Melbourne.

Who’s up for it? Let me know your preferred month.
