Artist's Description

Statue of Hagias(or Aghias), son of Aknonios. Great-grandfather of Daochos II, pankration champion (combination wrestling and boxing) at many panhellenic games in the 5th century BC. In the idealised portrait of an athlete, one can discern similarities in style and workmansgip witht the best work of Lysippos, the apoxyomenos (young athlete scraping oil from his body). Some say this is a marble copy of a bronze statue made by Lysippos in 340 BC. Archaeological Museum of Delphi.
