Evasive Maneuvers

I’ve been scattering my thoughts lately
Probably because they can’t be followed then
And I don’t want anyone to find them anyway
So I’m taking whatever lengths I can
Just to let them go

As long as I keep my head covered
I can be positive that these ruminations are safe
From the tainting effects of society
And the sapping comforts of a wealthy account
Where’s my tin foil cap?

I’m an advert for an aging breed
The cat curled up on the lap of a sleeping man
I’m the comfort nobody finds anyway
So they’re leaving all the clues they can
Just to start me up

But unfortunately, I have very little to show
I’m Sherlock Holmes without his powder
There aren’t any real mysteries to solve anymore
Nor the lifting efforts of a cheap blue tuxedo
Where’s my duct tape tie?

There are only three subjects worth studying
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Where’s my adolescent defiance?
Instead of defying real authority, I’ll defy the earth
This whole planet’s got it in for me
Where’s the shame in that?
I’ve always believed in picking my battles…
