Immortality

Season’s come and season’s go,
But I shall never change.
People live and people die,
And I see it every day.
500 years ago I was made,
I had a mother and a dad.
But nowhere near normalcy,
Was the intention of my life.
Created for the world to know,
I was meant to be a queen.
But instead I was robbed my life,
The day I heard my mother scream.
Now I live for eternity,
Less someone takes my head.
Who wants to live forever here,
Most certainly not I.
But if it’s what you choose,
Then that is your choice.
Immortality is an awful gift,
When everyone you love must leave.
I serve no purpose here on earth,
But to battle for my life.
And if I give it up willingly,
Some innocents may get hurt.
So I will fight to protect their lives,
Because life is what I believe in.
I just can’t let them know who I am,
Or even where I’m from.
Because if one of them became obsessed,
Then the cycle will start over again.
So one little question I must ask,
And everyone will have an answer.
It’s the worst thing you’ll ever know,
But who really wants to live forever?

Artist's Description

This was actually inspired by the movie an tv show “The Highlander” and the theme song for the show “Who wants to live forever” by the band “Kansas”.
I have always been in love with the idea of being imortal. However, it is highly unlikely that there is an actual imortal roaming this earth.
I recently have realized that no matter how cool it would be, it must also be very aweful for a person to wittness everything they love change and die.
So if there is anyone who thinks this would be the greatest thing on earth, I believe they should take a second thought about the idea of being here forever.
