This is a feather I had found on my property. It is, obviously, an eagle’s feather. I had started down a path toward the lake and saw from the corner of my eye something white laying in a patch of green and brown. Well, I have to admit I was shocked to learn there is a family of Bald Eagle’s living on my property. So immediately I had taken a photo of this feather. Unfortunately, I can not posess this beautiful treasure, for I am not Native American. Sinstead of leaing there, I had informed a freind of mine, from the res, about this. He had came to retrieve feather. It is truely unique what they do. When a eagle feather falls, it signifies a warrior or soldier has fallen. When that happens, they do a special dance and prayer for that soldier before they pick up the feather. And then they bless the ground by spreading tobacco ofer the area where the feather had fallen. If you ever are wittness to this special event, consider yourself lucky. It happens more than you know, but is still rare to be seen by those who are not Native American. Enjoy this story and photo.
