Canaries are harbingers of both the good and the bad. Though a flying canary might represent joy and freedom, a caged canary may symbolize oppression and confinement, and a canary that doesn't return from the coal mine is the utmost foreboding. The Canary Collaborative is a creative community that honors this multiplicity: that in spite of societal injustice personal hardship, and political strife, art may enable us to hold on to hope in a better future.
