Artist's Description

Here, an Eurasian Collard-Dove (Streptopella decaocto) tries to keep her balance with the landing of a Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula). The EC Dove, first introduced to the Bahamas, spread to Florida and is now spreading north outside its mapped range. The Common Grackle didn’t used to be very common in Colorado, but in the 20th century expanded across the eastern half of the state. Now this big, showy, blackbird with the gleaming, iridescent plumage and bold yellow eyes struts around yards and fields in the summer.
