It takes a brave soul
To brave the night -
To forfeit comfort
To forfeit light.

We strolled along
Hands in pockets and
Scarves ’round necks.
Braving the cold,
Braving the night.

A wind swept through me. 10
It pushed through and
Pulled out.
It took from me:
Warmth and a feeling
Of a love that had grown.

Long nights; such long nights,
Dazzling and bright.
A song, a dance,
To be held and to hold.
We pondered all that was, is and 20
Shall be.

We swayed and tipped,
We fell and died.
Pity for pity’s sake,
We kneeled and cried.

I’m losing colour,
I’m losing face.
On this darkened night
in this darkened place.

My skin peeled 30
My skin healed
My skin toughened:
Layered and sealed.

Up above, in trees that bent,
The moon fell;
Dull and spent.
It fell and crashed,
Crashed and burned.
Ignited a storm,
Flared and learned. 40

It takes a brave soul
To brave the night -
To forfeit comfort
To forfeit light.

In the darkest hour,
We tripped and ran.
Scarves in pockets and
Hands ’round necks.
Braving the cold,
Braving the night. 50
