My advertisement collage is made up of ads that depict the affects of Global Warming on our environment and also our society. I chose to highlight the social effects of these ads because Global Warming is such a popular topic among Americans today. While collecting images for this collage I came across countless of images depicting the earth being affected, but the ones that I chose for my collage demonstrate clear and concise messages. In this collage I have placed seven different ads and each one exhibits a specific aspect regarding the effects of global warming.
The first image in my collage is a picture of the earth as an ice cream cone. This picture is my favorite of any in my collage because it speaks so loud and also looks incredibly realistic. This picture is clearly demonstrating the abuse of the planet and reaches out to each person by illustrating the earth in a state of weakness. Seeing the image of the melted earth creates stress and uneasiness in people because we know that everyone lives on the earth and if it is destroyed then we will all cease to exist.
The second image is a picture of a snow globe full of nothing but water and snowman accessories. I enjoy this advertisement because it features the topic of global warming from a more personal side of our lives. Most people own or are at least aware of snow globes and I love the idea of all snow creations (whether they are actually real or not) being destroyed because our planet is too warm to have winter. This is a somewhat lighter depiction of the affects that global warming would have on our lives.
The third image exhibits our beautiful Statue of Liberty who is wearing a facemask in order to protect herself from the toxic fumes being generated from her own torch. This portrays a very powerful message concerning the production of environmentally unhealthy fumes from our own manufactured goods. The ad signifies the problem that America faces, in that, we are the ones causing this damage to the planet and ourselves and yet we are still doing nothing to stop it from happening.
The advertisement, which involves the massively oversized SUV, depicts America’s favorite size oriented statement, which claims that “bigger is better”. This ad is composed of only the front of this huge SUV, which exaggerates its size, along with the words “larger than any normal mortal needs”. This statement summarizes the transportation needs of the majority of the population and also emphasizes the fact that a normal human being could not possibly need anything larger than the most standard vehicle. These vehicles fall within the luxury class because only the wealthiest people can afford to buy them, which seems to entitle them to bragging rights about how much they can actually afford.
The next few images in my collage represent the effects of harmful toxic fumes on our environment, the effects of global warming on the polar environments, inhabited by Polar Bears, and the destruction of the earth from its rise in temperature. The black and white ad depicts the atmosphere in the gloomiest, gray, and toxic environment. This image shows that the factory-produced smoke causes this damage and is very similarly related to the Statue of Liberty ad that I have already explained. The adorable polar bear picture signifies the innocence of the animals in the arctic environments. The damage to their habitat is caused by our actions and they are the helpless victims. The image in the middle is the only advertisement that contains warm colors, which creates a great contrast to the other cooler colored advertisements. It also displays the earth in, what seems to be, a very hot and uncomfortable environment. This represents the great increase in temperature caused by the effects of global warming.
