Artist's Description

This gouache is still a long way from done. What you see here represents about a quarter of the circular plane it’s on. The faces location will match the vague continental where abouts of each culture, similar to a geographical likeness, though not entirely. These three faces represent the south Pacific, particularly Auzzie, PNG and New Zealand. It’s all about indigenous people and so each face will be made up with traditional symbols, designs, tattoos, etc. that intermingle where I’ve seen similar or repeated patterns. I don’t really want to get too much into it, but it’s been a big study piece for me. I gave it a rest over summer, but hope to get back at it this winter. Above these 3 faces are Chinese, Korean and Inuit portraits. The First Nations portrait in the top right corner is actually in the centre of the circle.
