The Pilgrim

Yea, the time of salvation ’twas at hand. I had prepared my sacrifice for this holy day; I had listened and devoutly obeyed the doctrine of the Great God.

Verily, I followed the Great God DOLE, without whom we are all naught.

Through his blessed ones he hath passed down the WORD, “Thou shalt look for Work. Thou shalt fill out the holy fortnightly form, and return it upon the requested day (or next working day). Thou shalt not BLUDGE!”

Indeed, I had been most devout. I hadst looked diligently for that elusive creature called Work, but alas, had been unsuccessful in tracking it down. But sooth, I didst persevere with the blessing of the Great God DOLE.

Trembling, I approached the sacred altar, feeling glory within the sanctified confines of the Temple of Unemployment. Humbly I gave my meagre offering to the hallowed priest.

Verily, my bowels didst turn to snowmelt, apprehensive of whether my sacrifice would pass judgement. The priest critically looked over my offering, almost ready to deem it an acceptable gift to the Great God DOLE.

Alas! The fates did not smile on this forsaken supplicant! With a righteous roar he didst release the holy fury upon me.

“INFIDEL! HERETIC! SINNER! BLASPHEMER! Thou dost offer such an unworthy gift unto the Great God DOLE! Dost thou wish to incur his merciless wrath? Thou hast not answered question 9!”

“Forgive me, great priest of the one who is most holy, I did not mean to offend thee or the Great God DOLE, without whom I am naught. Nay, I hath not changed my home address, or altered my telephone number.” I didst grovel humbly at the feet of the priest of the powerful deity which I worshipped so devoutly.

His expression didst lighten, he gaveth me a beatific smile and he spoke unto me, “Go in peace, my child. The Great God DOLE accepts thy form. May thou achieve the blessed state one day anon.”

Yea, then my heart knew joy, knowing that the blessing of the Great God DOLE was upon me, allowing my miserable life to continue until I reached the blessed state of Employment.

And verily, it was good.
