The truest of all Wars

Armageddon came not in a clap
applause of thunder hands, impending ruin
commencement not in horses and their men
sulphur clouds ensaring senses thick
a visit from Apollo never came
forked tongue in callow ears and spreading sins
Apocolyptic brunt born shoulders slump
the ravers screamed, they called this
Left Behind
and true, we saw the clothes, the teeth, the cars
glasses and the planes slouched down from skies
upon their scrapers
trees and necks and knees
bend before this holy holocaust.

Humans, just an idealistic bunch?
Off to save the whales and not ourselves
while the ozone layer falls ‘round your face,
your mind, your heart, they wither from misuse
How loud the TV set, the flapping mouth,
the human being, how indolent, how lost
sticking with the easiest excuse
It’s true, we are the slowest to evolve
The masses, watch us all degenerate
sidetracked, like a horse with blinders on
While the year, how close it comes, how near
witness as this world, it turns on us
illusions, greedily they’re gobbled up
by those malnourished, starving for some truth
Fallacy, the drink of choice for most,
gulped down by those who are too scared to hear.

But now it’s time to cast those costumes off!
The times have CHANGED,
the power lies with us!
And so begins the truest of all wars.
We’ll move, we’ll save, or finally fade away.
