Cade Turner (b. Sydney, Australia, 1977) received a Bachelor of Media (Visual Communications) from Macquarie University in 2001. Turner has exhibited locally and internationally and his work is held in private collections across Australia, Singapore, Japan, Italy, France and the USA.

Unlike many of his peers, Turner is a self-confessed Romantic artist. His contemporary, heart-felt, evanescent works emit mystery, mood and romantic grandeur. Turner uses the lens as his paintbrush to free light and colour caught in a living stasis, transforming them to unveil exquisite, untouched, visual symphonies that evoke a full spectrum of emotion.

Turner’s approach to photography is unique. On location, he is intuitively guided by light, colour and his emotional response to them and his surroundings. He completes most of his work in-camera (no Photoshop), using a variety of self-developed, unconventional techniques that have been mastered with great patience over the past fifteen years to create impactful effects. This unique approach enables him to capture previously unseen impressions of the very essence of light, its movement, explosive sensitivity and meaning that everyday eyes often miss.

Turner’s creative core lies deep in Romanticism. His style ranges from rich, abstract works of colour, to an early form of photographic Impressionism known as Pictorialism (c1845-1918) which focuses on the aesthetics and emotional impact of a work, rather than the object or scene itself. Since 2009, Turner has been working on a transition in influence from Impressionism to the edge of Romanticism, yet he maintains a raw, contemporary and often abstract edge. Shifting from capturing light and depicting its changing qualities, Turner is now investigating and telling lights emotive story.

IMPRESSED WITH IMPRESSIONISM: Developing my Impressionist Style

After the 2009 Impressionist Exhibition here in Sydney Australia, I have found myself greatly inspired by the Impressionist masters: Monet, Van Gogh, Renior and Degas.
