Artist's Description

What an engineering feat. This bridge really does stand out as bridges of all bridges. In the distances you can see the lights of cars on the approach which gives dimension to the size of this construction. On the town side the bridge swings onto a ramp over the buildings then descends to ground level. To get this image from this angel I had to hang outside the window of a moving vehicle and shoot backward in the oppisite direction of travel!.

“The Astoria-Megler Bridge, which was formally dedicated August 27, 1966, stretches 4.1 miles from Astoria, Oregon, across the mouth of the Columbia River, to Point Ellice, Washington. Its construction was an impressive feat. The bridge’s main span is 1,232 feet in length, the longest “continuous truss” in the nation.”
