Artist's Description

Gaff Schooner Adventuress with Stadium High School in the background. Adventuress is a gaff topsail two-masted schooner commissioned in 1913. Overall length is 113 feet with a displacement of 115 tons. She was built by the Rice Brothers of East Boothbay, Maine and designed by B.B. Crowninshield.
Statium High was originally constructed by the Northern Pacific Railroad and Tacoma Land Companies as a luxury hotel in 1891. Construction was stopped during the Financial Panic of 1893, the building was gutted by fire in 1898 and purchased by the Tacoma School District in 1904. On September 10, 1906 it opened as Statium High School and has been in operation ever since.
