Artist's Description

Image of Vine Maple Acer circinatum. Vine Maple are usually the first trees to start turning colours around here in the fall. This image was captured up at Mount Raininer National Park on the 6th of September. Vine Maple was used by the Native American people of the Pacific Northwest for everything from eating utensils to the treatment of dysentery. The sap was collected as both a drink and boiled down into syrup. The stems are very flexable and make great baskets and fishing traps. I have a few in my landscape, they add a nice soft green in the summer and great reds in the fall.
