Oh Brother Where Art Thou

Oh Brother Where Art Thou

It’s dark and I can’t see you
The dessert storms have blown you away
And the reservations rats have found you
They sit and wait on your cancerous couch
For the darkness to take you away

The social workers have your court appointed soup
and spread your sandwich thick with conservatorship
Ready to spoon feed to you so you don’t chock on your own denial

We have discovered your secret
Per Cap is the link to your disease
For you and the rats
Running scared you lash out
In Anger, Shame & Fear

My mama didn’t raise no fools
Says your brother who never left your side
Socks and blankets to keep you warm
From your cold and lonely logic
That keeps you far away

Artist's Description

This is a poem I wrote about my brother who is being used but clearly cannot see it because of his addiction and denial. I attended a court hearing in attempts to obtain a conservator for him but was met with his opposition to it.
