How Much Success Can One Man Have

No I have not won the draw
And anyway its too early
Nor have I pulled the winning straw
Although I’d love to dearly

Ed and I would do our best
We willed us to succeed
My motorcycle’s enforced rest
Did nothing for my need.

You may recall some weeks ago
When we had frost and cold
That on my bike I’d miles to go
It would surely make me old.

Twas only at the village end
My throttle cable went
And since that time I’ve thought to mend
But it hasn’t been my bent.

Good farmer Ken has minded not
As it over Christmas stayed
But before he rued his lot
I must really make the grade.

So Ed and I went full of hope
Armed with my new cable
Determined that we would not mope
If we we found we were unable.

But oh what joy for both of us
The job it went quite well
And with very little fuss
Good fortune on us fell.

So now its roars can greet the day
Whenever I need to hurtle
But I think I’ll wait ’til spring
Its bloody cold in Burtle!
