To Boot or not to Boot

The house it seems so full of ‘stuff’
We can hardly even move
Every surface has its load
Of things we used to love

Bargains sought and special deals
For things that we could use
Perhaps not just this moment
But it’s far too good to lose

Some things we find we’d bought again
As we’d forgotten that we had one
Lost amongst the many piles
As they proceed to deepen

Enough we cried this cannot be
We need to sort our stuff out
There is too much to contemplate
Our house will be a wipe-out

The answer comes from who knows where
A car boot sale’s the answer
What to us is surplus junk
Must be another punter’s earner

So we’ve whittled and we’ve picked
From precious bits and pieces
We must have brought the piles down
By making all those choices

Many boxes now are filled
With treasure that we’ve found
From the many household caves
Where ‘stuff’ it does abound

Surely there are people that
Will crave the things we’ve brought
Parting with their lovely cash
For that which they have sought

(Last time we set our table out
Was quite some time ago
Optimism ruled the day
All our bargains were on show

So much we took and little sold
The ‘booters’ missed our bargains
So bringing home the things they’ve left
Severely hit our margins)

But tomorrow is that brave new dawn
The car is full and creaking
Those many treasures make their way
Our fortune we are seeking

So may the day be fine and dry
And full of eager beavers
Keen to scour our table’s wealth
Long before they’re leavers
