The day's dawn

It’s still dark when I arise
Well, not quite
I can see the tree tops against the sky
But it’s not bright by any means
The birds are still sleeping
I am up before them
The cat doesn’t even stir from the back of the couch
I sit at the table with the first cup of the day
The sky changes
From a deep purple
To a deep indigo
Still no sounds
I sit and I sip and I plan
I plan out the day
What can I accomplish today
I can get this done and finish that and if I’m,
Wait
The sky has changed again
It’s a little brighter, still a deep blue but no longer indigo
If I had the window open I might be able to hear
To hear the birds waking to start their day
Oh Look
The first one at the feeder!
A finch I think, I’ll look him up later
He looks at me
We nod a Good Morning to one another
In our exchange
I fail to notice the sky has changed yet again
Taking on the hue that will define the day
A blue full of grace full of Promise
My cup has emptied
Time has passed too quick for me this day
And it’s early yet
The Finch and I say Good Day
Time to start again

The day's dawn
