Artist's Description

This is the Monument located on Hubbardton Battlefield in Vermont. The battle that took place here July 7, 1777, was the only battle of the Revolution fought in the state of Vermont. The American forces bravely repulsed several attacks by the British, but when the British were reinforced, the Americans fell back. Even though the Americans fell back, they delayed the advance of the british long enough for the main American force to reach safety. Hubbardton Battlefield is regarded by many as the most well preserved battlefield in the United States. The view from Monument Hill is phenomenal, it encompasses the Green Mountains to the south, and the Adirondack Mountains across Lake Champlain to the east. You can almost feel the energy of the men who fought and died for liberty on this sacred ground.
