North Shore Dreaming

North shore dreaming,
Lake Erie respite.

Where I long for
driftwood beaches,
shale steps
and peaches,

Picked from
summer orchards.

Red July cherries,
hanging like
tiny crimson chandeliers,

Catching the sun,
my taste buds
watering along
dusty chased roads,

Where we rode the fire trucks,
watering them down,
keeping the choke at bay.

The fireman letting us ride for free.
Truck tubes rolling,
and we inside riding
down boats access way.

Splashing and flipping in the water.
The fresh smell of summer seaweed wafting up the banks.

July’s bouquet
My Dad and my Grandpa,
Replacing the planks on boat ramp never used.

Their both gone now,
And I cry.
