BruksSketches

Birchington, United Kingdom

Born in Zimbabwe, I have always loved to sketch African wildlife. British Army 23 years then Tree Surgeon 2008. www.brukstreecarving.com

After serving 23 years in the British Army, it’s obvious to say that I have seen a few things in my time. The thing that provided me the well-earned unwinding peace at the end of each day back the was the simple pleasure of being able to sit down and sketch.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, I am proud of my African roots and I relished every minute of my childhood spent in the bush around the Zambezi, in and among the wildlife and I think my inspiration still feeds from that.

My love of drawing and creating helped me feel confident enough to open my own Chainsaw Carving shop of all things, with a creative viewing area for the public to spectate. It came as a direct spin off from launching my Tree Surgery company in 2008, after serving my time in HM Forces. Customers were often asking if I might be able to do something a little different with their remaining tree stump after the tree had been dismantled and so one meerkat led to a squirrel which led to an elephant ….and the rest, as they say is history.

I still very much enjoy the odd day being able to sit down and sketch in my workshop…when I actually find a spare moment or two between the tree carving, the 3 kids and the tree surgery that is!
