I Capture Light On Film.

I practise landscape, architectural, automotive and general photography in Tasmania, Australia.

My portfolio images are mostly made with classic cameras fifty years old or even older. As a result of careful buying, patience, and a willingness to take on cameras that often need a bit of TLC, I’ve been able to acquire some interesting, high quality equipment quite inexpensively from makers such as Zeiss Ikon, Minolta, Voigtländer, Rolleiflex, Linhof and Contax. I enjoy using classic equipment to good effect and demonstrating how good photographs from the better ones can still be.

I often use medium format because of the superlative image quality, sometimes with my Rolleiflex, but I also shoot with a Hasselblad SLR because of its versatility—and I have recently begun using large format. 35mm remains important for my work due to the wide range of focal lengths, economy and its general portability—with care, image quality can still be excellent.

Black and white images are mostly made on Fujifilm Acros 100, Kodak’s classic Tri-X or ILFORD’s Pan F Plus, FP4 Plus, Delta 100; and Delta 3200. These are selected for their outstanding sharpness, fine grain and tonality, (and for low light shots, in the case of Delta 3200). I develop my own black and white films and also films for a number of other Tasmanian photographers. My favourite films for colour imaging are Velvia 50, Provia 100F, Pro 160 and Pro 400H from Fuji, and Ultramax 400 from Kodak.
